The Critics’ Choice Awards 2010: And the Winners Are…
Last night, The Hurt Locker, Inglorious Basterds and Avatar won big at the Critics Choice Awards.
Fox Searchlight’s Crazy Heart was a double winner, with actor Jeff Bridges winning the best actor prize for his roles as country singer Bad Blake. Crazy Heart’s theme “The Weary Kind” also won for best song.
Nine, which tied with Basterds with 10 nominations, ended up winless, while Basterds won the critics’ pick for best ensemble, Christoph Waltz was named the best supporting actor and the film’s director Quentin Tarantino won for his original screenplay.
Pixar’s Up won for best animated feature and best score and Fox’s Avatar was named best action movie and it several technical awards including: cinematography, editing, art direction, sound and visual effects.
The best actress category was split in a tie. Meryl Streep won for her portrayal of Julia Child in Julie & Julia, saying that “”I love to work, and I love food and I love sex. And so did Julia Child. So it wasn’t that much of a stretch.” Sandra Bullock also won for her role in The Blind Side. She jokingly took the stage and yelled “”This is bulls—,” but later kissed Streep and proclaimed in her acceptance speech that like Streep, she too likes food and sex. “That’s how similar we are. You guys just didn’t notice it until now,” Bullock said. She ended her speech by saying: “Meryl is a good kisser.”
