Christina Aguilera Explains National Anthem Flub

Christina Aguilera is well aware that flubbed the lyrics while singing the National Anthem during Sunday’s Super Bowl XLV.

The 30-year-old singer sang “what so proudly we watched” instead of the correct lyrics, “o’er the ramparts we watched.”

“I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place,” said Aguilera in a statement. “I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.”

Prior to her performance, she was excited to sing before millions of viewers.

“I have been performing the anthem since I was seven years old and I must say the Super Bowl is a dream come true…I am really excited to be part of such an iconic event,” Aguilera said.

Preview: Lady Gaga’s ‘Telephone’

Check out the new photos for Lady Gaga’s upcoming music video Telephone.

The video, which also features Beyoncé, has a prison theme and will center around Beyoncé trying to get Lady Gaga out of jail with the help of a fully-equipped vehicle called “The Pussy Wagon” - reportedly the same truck that Uma Thurman drove in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill.

Model Tyrese also appears in the video as the main male lead.

Lady Gaga toned down her style to look more like Beyoncé, saying:

“I said, ‘I want to do you in your video, and I want to tribute you. I want to dress up like you.’ And Hype Williams … was so excited. He was like, ‘Gaga I want no makeup on your face.’ It was really stripped down — real Beyoncé hair, and we wore the same outfit in the video, and I [paid tribute to] her.”
