‘Avatar’ Sinks ‘Titanic’s’ Box Office Record

avatar

It’s official! Avatar is the world’s all-time highest-grossing film.

Yesterday the film surpassed the $1.843 billion global gross of James Cameron’s other epic blockbuster, Titanic. Avatar now holds the record$1.859 billion.

Avatar has to make about $46 million, however, to take the global domestic gross.

80% of the film’s domestic box-office gross accounts for the 3-D ticket sales. It’s even being reported that Avatar might even achieve the impossible – a $2 billion worldwide profit.

Avatar

It seems that the buzz for James Cameron’s anticipated film, Avatar has paid off. The film is currently number one at the box office making an estimated $73 million domestically – $232 million worldwide.

Although the number is lower than expected for the film, considering the record snowfall this weekend, Avatar still had a solid opening.

The Princess and the Frog, which held the number one spot last week hopped to second place making an estimated $12.2 million. The Blind Side took third place with $10.0 million, while Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant’s comedy film, Did You Hear About the Morgans? took $7 million for fourth place.
